Singapore Airlines and Air India Remove Booking Restrictions for 126 Weekly Flights

Deepening Commercial Integration

This operational shift marks the first set of initiatives launched under a Commercial Cooperation Framework Agreement signed by both airlines in January 2026. The change is designed to provide passengers with a wider range of itinerary options and greater flexibility when planning journeys. The immediate impact covers 126 weekly flights connecting Singapore with eight major Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

The partnership builds on a significant financial and operational link established in November 2024, when SIA acquired a 25.1 percent stake in Air India. That investment paved the way for a comprehensive codeshare partnership signed in October 2024, which currently spans 77 destinations across 27 countries and territories. Through their respective hubs in Delhi, Mumbai, and Singapore, the two carriers provide connectivity to markets across Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. The new booking provisions represent a deepening of this relationship, moving from simple codeshare arrangements to a more integrated commercial entity.

“Demand for travel between Singapore and India remains strong, and this partnership will give customers greater choice and convenience, as well as enhanced reciprocal benefits for our frequent flyer members,” said Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer of Singapore Airlines.

Nipun Agarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, framed the expansion as a critical component of the airline’s broader strategy. “Strategic partnerships will play a key role in Air India’s evolution into a leading, world-class global airline,” Agarwal stated. He noted that by leveraging the strengths of both carriers, the airlines aim to bring greater consistency to the travel experience for their common customer base, delivering increased choice and value as demand between the two nations continues to grow.

Enhanced Loyalty Benefits and Future Roadmap

The booking changes are part of a broader suite of reciprocal benefits already in motion. In April 2026, the airlines enhanced mileage accrual rules for members of Air India’s Maharaja Club and SIA’s KrisFlyer program. These changes expanded the eligible booking classes and revised earn rates across all cabin classes, allowing members to accumulate miles on a wider range of flights operated by either carrier.

Further upgrades are scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. At that point, Maharaja Club Platinum and KrisFlyer PPS Club members will gain priority check-in and boarding privileges alongside top-tier members of the respective airlines. Additionally, Maharaja Club Silver and KrisFlyer Elite Silver members will receive increased baggage allowances and priority boarding on eligible routes. These measures will operate in addition to existing Star Alliance privileges.

Beyond immediate booking and loyalty perks, the airlines are working on additional initiatives aimed at improving schedule connectivity to reduce layover and waiting times. Enhanced offerings for corporate customers and further streamlining of the travel experience are also in development. The next phase of cooperation is expected to focus on these operational efficiencies, ensuring that the financial and commercial ties forged since 2024 translate into tangible improvements for the millions of passengers who traverse the India-Singapore corridor.

The removal of the mandatory multi-carrier booking requirement is a practical step that simplifies the purchase process. For a traveler in Mumbai needing to fly to Singapore on an Air India flight, the option to book directly through SIA’s platform without being forced to add an SIA segment represents a significant reduction in friction. As the airlines continue to integrate their commercial operations, the focus remains on serving the robust and growing demand for travel between two of the region’s key economic hubs.
