Ravens defeat Falcons 30-23 in overtime behind Tyler Huntley

Atlanta took control early in the game after a defensive play resulted in a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jessie Bates III. The play followed a punch-out of a pass intended for Zay Flowers by safety Sydney Brown. Despite the early deficit, the Ravens’ defense stifled Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who did not record a completion until midway through the second quarter. The Falcons led at the half and maintained their advantage through the third quarter, but Baltimore’s offense began to find rhythm in the second half.

The decisive phase of the game occurred in the final minutes of regulation. Trailing by eight points with less than three minutes remaining, the Ravens tied the score with a touchdown play followed by a successful two-point conversion with 40 seconds left. After forcing a punt, Baltimore opened the overtime period with a long drive that culminated in Huntley scoring on a quarterback sneak with 2:57 remaining in the extra period. The Falcons’ subsequent overtime possession ended in an interception thrown by backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who entered the game after Penix suffered a rib injury during the final drive of regulation. The pick was made by Kyle Hamilton, sealing the Ravens’ win.

Head coach Jesse Minter praised the team’s resilience following the game. “Really proud of our team,” Minter said. “Digging deep, doing whatever it takes to win the game, kind of picking each other up.” The performance marked Huntley’s 12th career start for Baltimore. A former member of the Ravens from 2020 to 2023, Huntley rejoined the team in 2025 after a stint with the Miami Dolphins. In relief of Jackson against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4, Huntley completed eight of nine passes for 63 yards.

The win provides crucial context for the Ravens’ season, a team that has historically struggled without its franchise quarterback. Since Jackson became the starter in 2018, Baltimore holds a 79-32 record with him under center, compared to a 6-11 record in games he has missed. Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, suffered the ankle injury in the second quarter of the Week 4 win over the Titans. He had completed 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game. Minter indicated that Jackson’s status for Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns remains unknown, though the quarterback is working diligently to return. “To Lamar’s credit, this dude’s working his tail off to get back,” Minter stated. “He’s in there all time. Don’t know the specifics of next week, but he’ll be doing everything in his power to get back.”

For the Falcons, the loss highlights the volatility of their recent form. While they had been considered one of the hottest teams in the league following their Monday night win over the New Orleans Saints, the overtime defeat against a Ravens team without its starting quarterback offers a setback. The Falcons now travel to face their next opponent, having lost their second consecutive game in primetime television slots this season.

The Ravens will prepare for their Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, where they are currently listed as road favorites. Huntley is expected to remain the starting quarterback unless Jackson clears the injury protocol in time, a decision the coaching staff will make closer to game day.
